For ASSU’S fall speaker event we are hosting Professor David Martell as he provides a lecture focusing on the increasing rate of Ontario’s wildfires, the impact to youth and how the next generation can combat these increasing disaster risks.
Professor Martell has completed his B.A.Sc. (1971), M.A.Sc. (1972), and Ph.D. (1975) in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto where he studied Management Science and Operational Research and their application to forest fire management. After he completed his Ph.D. he spent part of the 1975 fire season as a member of an Ontario Department of Lands and Forests fire crew stationed at Shebandowan in Thunder Bay district. He has worked as a consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF) and several other government agencies. He has been interviewed numerous times by news organizations such as CTV, especially with the recent rise in wildfires across Canada.
Come to the Fall Speaker event to ask him questions whether it be related to wildfires, climate change, or even his work as a consultant with the Ontario government
