Gavin Nowlan Campus Student Leadership Award

Criteria for Award: ASSU annually awards a $1500 scholarship to one (1) full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the St. George campus.  ASSU also chooses two (2)  $750 runner-ups.  The award is named after a two-term President of ASSU. To be eligible for the award, you are required to fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Must be a full time Arts and Science student registered on the St. George campus
  2. Must have a minimum GPA of 1.70
  3. Must be involved with extra-curricular activities ONLY on campus

Urmila (Uma) Sarkar Service Award

Criteria for Award: Annually, ASSU awards a member of the univeristy community for their service, above and beyond their regular duties, to students in the Faculty of Arts and Science. The award is named after Uma Sarkar, a two-term ASSU President, who continued to assist ASSU long after she graduated. The ASSU Executive decides the winner. A sum of $500 is donated to a charity organization in the winner’s name.

Katharine Ball Graduating Award for Course Unions

Ali Saeed Memorial Award

This award was established in memory of Ali Saeed (1992-2014) -an international student from Pakistan studying Political Science, who was a dedicated collaborator in the work ASSU did over the 2013-2014 academic year. He was a passionate photographer, student activist, and was highly respected by his peers and all who knew him. The value of the award is $5,000 for 2015.

ASSU Graduating Student Leadership Award

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student who will be registering in a graduate program in the Faculty of Arts and Science in the next fall session. Minimum GPA for consideration is 3.0.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their dedication to enhancing the student experience of their peers through involvement in and contribution to a variety of aspects of university life.
  • Financial need will be considered; must demonstrate financial need by qualifying for OSAP for the fall-winter sessions in which the application is made.
  • Please note: international students are not eligible.
  • Award will be paid upon registration in a graduate program in the Faculty of Arts and Science in the following fall-winter session.
 
Value: $5,000

Applications: 

Applications are composed of 6 parts that must be submitted together. Please ensure applications are complete upon submission. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications must include applicant’s student number and current mailing address.

  2. A one to two-page statement on your future academic and career goals.
  3. Curriculum vitae outlining academic achievements, scholarships and awards received, work experience, and extracurricular involvement.
  4. Letter of support from a University of Toronto faculty member (must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the application).
  5. Letter of support from an administrative staff member (e.g. college registrar’s office staff, undergraduate administrator), or alumni who can verify your campus involvement (must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the application).
  6. Copy of the applicant’s OSAP assessment.
