Environmental Students’ Union Elections

ENSU Elections for 2014-2015 are coming up!

Positions that you can run for:

-Co-Presidents (2)

-Treasurer (1)

-Secretary (1)

-Social Media & Communications Coordinator (1)

-Upper Year Representatives (2)

-Webmaster (1)

(*The position of lower year representatives shall be filled in the following academic year.)

 

Individuals may nominate themselves for a position on the ENSU executive until the day specified by the Chief Returning Officer (CRO). Only full time (or ASSU fee paying) students enrolled in a specialist, major, or minor in the School of the Environment or enrolled in 1 ENV course and intending to enrol in a School of the Environment program may run for the positions.

 

The deadline to submit your intention to run is Tuesday April 1st at midnight. Candidates must submit their intention to run and a blurb to: ensu.utoronto@gmail.com

 

Voting will be conducted via online voting. The link for online voting will be posted on the Facebook page on the day of by 9am.

 

Candidates are highly discouraged from putting up posters in effort of maintaining the environmentally friendly interests of the club. Candidates can display a poster on the ENSU board in the Domtar Student Lounge in the Earth Sciences Building (5 Bancroft Avenue). Candidates may campaign through websites, social media, and word-of-mouth if they wish.

 

Election results will be announced by ENSU within 48 hours of the elections, excluding weekends.

Position Descriptions:

Co-Presidents (2)

1) Organize and manage ENSU ensuring that the obligations of its mandate and Constitution are met;

2) Preside over meetings of the ENSU executive and ENSU general meetings;

3) Ensure membership in University of Toronto institutions where necessary, including but not limited to The University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU), Student Life, the Arts and Science Student Union(ASSU), the Sustainability Office;

4) Ensure membership in groups/organizations outside the University of Toronto where Beneficial or necessary;

5) Set a policy on timely performance duties for all executive members of ENSU, especially those transactions related to room bookings, promotional correspondence, or finance;

6) Create a workplan at the beginning of the year that enables the team to know what their duties for each event and to act as a template for events;

7) Hold signing authority on the ENSU bank account in conjunction with the ENSU Treasurer;

8) Develop and implement sustainable capital strategies in conjunction with the Treasurer;

9) Ensure to the best of his/her ability that ENSU has an office and that it is being maintained according to University of Toronto standards.

10) Provide all necessary support and assistance to other executive members;

11) Encourage ENSU to grow and develop as appropriate in a given year, including but not limited to, promoting special projects, encouraging University of Toronto sponsored national conferences;

12) Work alongside the Secretary as a first line of contact for internal and external liaisons;

13) Maintain contact with the University of Toronto administration and staff;

14) Lobby the administration to promote the School of the Environment students’, and ENSU’s interest.

 

Treasurer (1)

1) Manage all ENSU financial accounts;

2) Keep an accurate and completely up-to-date ledger of all financial transactions of ENSU;

3) Ensure that all financial transactions required by ENSU are carried out in a timely manner as set out by the ENSU Co-Presidents and agreed upon by the ENSU Executive as a whole;

4) Validate all spending through the tracking of receipts and proof of purchase;

5) Ensure the security of ENSU funds and accounts with reference to signatory authority, passwords, or any other security procedure that may be necessary;

6) Hold signing authority on ENSU’s bank account in conjunction with the ENSU Co-Presidents

 

Secretary (1)

1) Take minutes at all executive and external meetings, as necessary;

2) Draft ENSU documents and press releases upon request from the Co-Presidents

3) Maintain a detailed list of all contacts established by all members of the Executive throughout the year;

4) Make all room booking appointments as necessary in a timely manner;

5) Ensure that the ENSU office is properly equipped with all necessary office supplies, and that the ENSU documents and property is held securely;

6) Create or maintain contacts with representatives of all publications on campus (student newspapers, newsletters, university websites, radio) and to the best of his/her ability with representatives of other publications in the city, in order to promote ENSU and facilitate the diffusion of ENSU notices. Lobby representatives to obtain long-term preferential rates for advertising space;

7) Ensure that all ENSU documents and property are transferred safely at the end of the year to the executive;

8) Work alongside the Co-Presidents as a first line of contact for internal and external liaisons.

 

Social Media and Communications Coordinator (1)

1) Manage the ENSU internet mailbox; ensu.utoronto@gmail.com – ensure that all received emails are replied to or forwarded as necessary in a timely manner;

2) Ensure that all ENSU advertising campaigns are carried out in a timely manner, as set by the ENSU Executive;

3) Manage the ENSU Listserv, and ensure that all ENSU ads and notices are sent to the Listserv in a timely fashion;

4) Manage the ENSU social media site as well as the poster board located in the Domtar lounge.

 

Upper Year Representatives (2)

1) Act as a direct line of communication between ENSU and all upper year students enrolled in classes or programs with the school of the Environment;

2) Make in person class announcements about all of ENSU’s upcoming events, general meetings, and elections in order to properly advertise to all students;

3) Assist in the event planning process along side the rest of the ENSU Executive;

4) Make at least 2 posters for events throughout the year.

 

Lower Year Representatives (2)

1) Act as a direct line of communication between ENSU and all lower year students enrolled in classes or programs with the school of the Environment;

2) Make in person class announcements about all of ENSU’s upcoming events, general meetings, and elections in order to properly advertise to all students.

3) Assist in the event planning process along side the rest of the ENSU Executive.

4) Make at least 2 posters for events throughout the year.

 

Webmaster (1)

1) Must be constantly striving to update and improve the quality of the ENSU website, and to add relevant content as described by the ENSU Executives;

2) Promote the website to members and non-members.
