The Arts and Science Students’ Union and the Policing Literacy Initiativeare coming together for a panel to address the issues of distrust between police forces and the communities they serve. The deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown in 2014 brought police practices to the forefront of public attention. As we enter 2015, how can we fix these problems to ensure a better working relationship between police forces and the communities they serve? How do police practices effect civic engagement and participation in democracy.
Panelists include:
Jim Rankin, Toronto Star
Alok Mukherjee, Toronto Police Services Board
Gary Newman, Breaking the Cycle
Noa Mendelsohn Aviv, CCLA
Insp. Myron Demkiw, Toronto Police
