Moving On From…
Coming to university, she found that professors expect you to know what to do from the start. You actually have to do things for yourself– no one reminds you about the assignments that are due, no one is there to push you, and worst of all, no one seems to care. This was a shock to her because in high school, students tend to be kept in a bubble by their teachers. First year was about adjusting to life as a university student, and she found that the workload was rough. Really rough. Her marks were no longer as they once were in high school– her marks dropped, she failed both of her Chemistry 136 tests, and she dropped her first university course, Math 135. Giezel realized that she had to remove her expectations about grades, but most importantly stop comparing herself to others, as your progress in university is about you and not about others. Giezel made sure she really focused on her mental health, and through journaling she was able to sort through what she was feeling.
