Content Warning: Mass Murder, Islamophobia
The Arts and Sciences Students’ Union is horrified by the hateful, Islamophobic terrorist attack in London, Ontario that resulted in the massacre of 3 generations of a Pakistani Muslim family. They are survived only by an orphaned nine-year-old boy.
This attack reminds us of the many similar racist, xenophobic, and Islamophobic incidents, such as the murders of Ejaz Choudry, Mohamed-Aslim Zafis, and the Quebec City Mosque shooting. These represent a deeply rooted systemic problem of unchecked anti-Muslim hatred in Canada and beyond. We grieve with the Muslim and Pakistani communities, and ask everyone to hold themselves and each other accountable in their own racism and anti-Muslim biases.
With Solidarity,
The ASSU Executive
