ASSU Sustainability
ASSU Sustainability is a newly formed initiative. It was started at the beginning of the 2008 school year. We formed a small committee that came up with some pretty terrific ideas.
This year, I would really like to put these ideas to motion.
To summarise our ideas in the year past:
1) Create a Sustainability Policy for the Faculty of Arts and Science to implement. With great consideration to the Policy that UTSU and other groups on campus crafted.
2) Making ASSU more green in the office and around. We need more plant life in the dead Sidney Smith building. Have you ever noticed that the ASSU office does not have any windows?
3) ASSU Waterbottles. This idea never materialised but we’re definitely thinking about water use on campus. There is a terrific campaign going on now - the University of Toronto Water Initiative. This is a great group of people working extremely hard to inform people about the water on campus.
They worked hard to make Hart House an disposable water bottle free zone. No bottled water is sold there.
At Robarts there’s a filtered and flavoured water machine. For $0.50 you can get “filtered” water dispensed into your water bottle.
ASSU has made the decision to support the Public Water Initiative rather than competing with them for reusable water bottle sales.
In short, ASSU has many resources and social connections to improve the conditions around campus.
