When? Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, 6-8 p.m.

Where? Robert Gill Theatre; 3rd floor, Koffler Centre; 214 College Street

- Dance! FREE Food! Art! Socialize! Meet Faculty & Students & FREE Admission
- A demonstration of Bol, the spoken language of rhythm
- Intro to North and East Indian classical dance forms; Check it out on <Facebook>: http://www.facebook.com/events/edit/index.php?eid=310614136710&step=1#!/event.php?eid=265891479559&ref=ts

From the Globe & Mail, describing a Chitralekha performance:Odissi is considered the most lyrical and sensual of the South Asian dance styles. The art form brings to life temple dance sculptures in a series of beautiful poses linked by intricate footwork and hand movements. Devraj’s clever spin on this living sculpture is to elaborate on traditional Odissi movements-in other words, to make the dance more complicated and ornate, a concept embraced in the word “pallavi”. The “science” part is anchored in the complex mathematics of the musical structure of the raaga, or specific number of beats of the music. The resulting dance is like watching Odissi in fast-forward. Traditional poses flash by like telephone poles from a passing car, while the siblings execute Devraj’s demanding physicality with awesome speed.

Synopsis: Adam and Zooey have been unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant for 7 months, then end up pregnant after a rape. Unsure of the parentage of their child, they decide to have him anyway.

Full summary: Adam (Tom Keenan) and Zooey (Daria Putteart) have been unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant for seven months. At wit’s end, they decide to detoxify, de-stress and go to the country to keep trying. Their relaxing time away turns to mayhem as they are set upon by a band of drunken young men who beat them up, and rape Zooey in front of Adam. As the distraught couple attempt to recover, they discover Zooey is pregnant. Unsure of the parentage of their child, they decide to go through with the pregnancy, use it to heal, and raise the child as their own – no matter what. Zooey is nonplussed, and uses the pregnancy to heal from her trauma. But Adam, who is sure the child has been spawned by a rapist, is haunted, and eventually driven to extremes.

“Bold, raw and unforgettable. A gritty, fearless, emotionally devastating experience”
Sam Hagenlocher, The Uniter

“Gripping… The opening ten minutes of this film are a harrowing brush with evil.”
Aaron Graham, Uptown

“Intimate and emotionally real”
Alison Gillmor, CBC

Zooey & Adam has just begun its festival circuit, premiering at The Atlantic International Film Festival in September of 2009 and nominated at the Vancouver International Film Festival for the CanWest award for Best Canadian Feature Film.

Sean Garrity is an independent filmmaker from Winnipeg. His past films, Lucid and INerTia have garnered much acclaim from the independent filmmaking community, winning such awards as Best First Feature at TIFF 2001 and “Best Director” at the 2001 FilmCan Festival.

Come view a rare screening of this controversially topical film. This film is a rejection of big-budget Hollywood aesthetics, come out to support our Canadian Independent cinema!
